Peace Partners were delighted to participate in Bedrock Books’ recent social impact project. Here is an update from Lesley Cooper about its success.
“I just wanted to write to everyone to say how happy we are with the way the project went; there have been so many great results - including some we did not even envisage …. Whatever the number of copies of Hear Yourself bought, and we are guessing that this could be around 1,000 books, the project has been a great success …. The donations coming into Bedrock Books have been truly inspiring. From those donations we managed to buy 580 books, with many going directly to support inmates participating in the Peace Education Programme in UK prisons …. We discovered the potential of a Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) project, which has raised £2,500 in donations - and that is something we would like to continue. Watch this 5 minute video to find out more. If you know of anyone who might want to support this, do get in touch as we can extend this right through the summer …. Lastly, we discovered the power of the author’s message via social media. We are currently running a post on Facebook which has so far reached 10,000 people, with 2,000 likes and over 40 shares. So, we wanted to say a Big Thank You to everyone who participated in this project, and let’s keep this wonderful project going in as many ways as possible! Regards, Lesley and the book project team PS. Any questions write to hearyourselfuk@gmail.com PPS. We all say we want peace, but what does it really take to make it happen? What can we learn that will help us live in peace? With ourselves? With each other? With our planet? The virtual Global Peace Education Day Conference is on 20th September. This year’s theme is Human Rights - Empowering Children, honouring the 75th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Registration is free. There will be over 20+ speakers, including Prem Rawat, the founder of The Prem Rawat Foundation and the Peace Education Programme. The conference will explore the ways in which peace education helps give our children a voice and a choice.
Peace Education is very important. If young people are brought up to see antagonism and conflict as a normal part of life, it makes it so much harder to choose peace as a default option. It takes a conscious approach to foster the understanding that peace is a culture of prosperity and well-being, and that combativeness leads to suffering and hardship. |
