On May 12th this year a dozen or so Peace Partners volunteers gathered for a get-together at the National Council for Volunteering Organisations (NCVO) in King’s Cross, London, an occasion that celebrated the 10th anniversary of the charity. Our gracious host and event manager Wendy Martin, coordinated an inspiring and rewarding day.
The purpose of these get-togethers is to consolidate the effort of working as a team, which is almost entirely done through on-line meetings and remote messaging. It is very charming to meet up in person, periodically, and brings the human touch to our volunteering relationships. The day was an interesting mix of reviewing current projects and future plans—with time for expressions and feelings about our work—and a taster session for the Peace Education Programme facilitated by Ronnie Cray. There was an update on how the new website is progressing from Clement, team-building fun and games playing Jenga, and a reading and slide show of the story ‘The Pot with the Hole’ from Prem Rawat’s book Splitting the Arrow. The lunch was excellent and was crowned with a delicious raspberry and elder flower polenta cake which everyone said was the ‘star of the day’! The day finished with a recorded Zoom interview with Marci Klein and Jake Frankel from The Prem Rawat Foundation, in conversation with Wendy and Robin Watkins about our key partnership. The day was, to quote one attendee, “a glorious away day”. Everyone in Peace Partners contributes in their own personal way, playing to the strengths of their own unique skill set. Peace is the most noble and wonderful cause. Geri Andrews, Peace Partners
