Monday 21st September is the UN International Day of Peace.

At Peace Partners, we’re taking the opportunity to share ten ways to celebrate and support peace on the 21st September, in the year of our tenth anniversary of activity in the wellbeing space!

TEN YEARS,
TEN WAYS, ONE PURPOSE—PEACE

Since Peace Partners’ inception our team has celebrated Peace Day each year. This year, on our tenth anniversary, a small team has decided to look at ten ways in which—in these ten years—the efforts of our volunteers have supported practical initiatives designed to promote a greater awareness of the universal need for peace and wellbeing. They also show how we are engaging with this year's UN theme: "Invest in Peace - For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day”. In times of turmoil the vital need for this greater awareness becomes more and more evident to more and more of us.

Each day in the ten days to September 21st we will make a social media posting which exemplifies one of our ten ways. The posts will be supported by a similar entry on our Peace Day 2026 website landing page, sometimes with links to content relevant to the theme. On September 21st we will distribute a Peace Day newsflash mailing that highlights this—our now hopefully complete—ten ways landing page!

Join in by joining us in celebrating and supporting Peace Day 2026!

* A shout out to Peace One Day who successfully campaigned for the fixed calendar date of September 21 for The UN International Day of Peace!

DAY 1 - Friday 11th September

Our first way to Invest in Peace is by sharing a kind act or helping someone in need

You can use some of the ideas in our images, or some of your own!

An inspiration for starting Peace Partners was the many acts of kindness behind the Food For People initiative.

DAY 2 - Saturday 12th September

Our second way of Investing in Peace is to share and amplify the message of peace, through media, campaigns and communications

Please see some images below, where we have put this into action in the last 10 years, through some of the initiatives we have engaged with:
our Waves of Change forums, Signing The Bruxelles Declaration. Follow the links for more!

Our fifth way in which you can help share the message Invest in Peace? Partnerships. Working together—if you are interested in partnering with us please do view our link:  www.peacepartners.co.uk/our-partnerships.html

In 2018 our Waves Change forum featured the UK premiere of The Prem Rawat Foundation's documentary Peace is Inevitable, which shows how their Peace Education Program helped Ecuadorian gang members to transform their lives from a cycle of conflict into a search for peace: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA7Oshtpy0k

DAY 6 - Wednesday 16th September

Our sixth way in which you can help share the message Invest in Peace? Find personal peace and experience it in your everyday life

Here’s something from The Prem Rawat Foundation Peace Education Program, and how some students felt a real sense of peaceability after attending.

When volunteers brought the Peace Education Program to individuals experiencing homelessness at the St Mungo's Recovery College in London Bridge, they created a safe space where participants could express their personal peace journeys through poetry and prose:
  • One participant reflected on their self-worth, writing: "Life is sacred; when I realise that life is special, when I come from gratitude to be alive, I welcome every moment... This realisation is empowering. Life is worth living!"
  • Another shared a renewed appreciation for time: "When you realise how short life is it makes you appreciate that life is precious, every moment counts... May this be the day to lead us to peace, to happiness and to Joy"
  • Another wrote: "Seek peace within, hold on to hope, know that within you is the strength to achieve your dreams. Be in the moment".
  • A fourth noted: "What I really want, more than shelter, food or money, is just to be treated like a human being"

DAY 7 - Thursday 17th September

Our seventh way in which you can help share the message Invest in Peace?  Bringing People Together

Peace Partners helped with an initiative to Bring People Together with a workshop led by volunteers from The Ubuntu Roundtable Project, which aims to build a calm and cohesive community by bringing local young people and police officers together on an equal footing (hosted at the Waves of Change—Waves of Peace event in Croydon in 2019)

Some responses from workshop attendees:
"Wonderful day - very inspiring - thank you"

"Thank you for bringing your enthusiasm, care, compassion to the event. You are doing great work."

"It was an exceptional day and the two young men running this workshop were awesome, in the true sense of the word...."

DAY 8 - Friday 18th September

Our eighth way in which to share the message and actions for Investing in Peace is to use Education and Learning

We embed The Prem Rawat Foundation Peace Education Program as much as we can into what we do as a first point of call. Please see the following news release for details of the Lottery Funding we secured in the last ten years to help specifically with this vital project:

DAY 9 - Saturday 19th September

Another way in which to Invest in Peace is through Higher Education. This is our ninth way to improve our skills, knowledge and understanding of what Peace means.

At Peace Partners, we’ve been assisting our key partner The Prem Rawat Foundation to develop The Peace Education Programme for Higher Education. This is a programme aimed specifically at students at colleges and further education establishments. You can read more about the programme and view materials on The Prem Rawat Foundation’s website
https://tprf.org/peace-education-program/edu/

DAY 10 - Sunday 20th September

Our final way to celebrate our ten years is with a final message on peace. The tenth way in which to Invest in Peace is to look at the Wider Implications of the Message of Peace

Bringing people further together, creating connections, and creating shared understandings. One way of appreciating this is to understand the wider implications of UN Sustainable Development Goal 16 on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies:

Peace Partners is amongst the institutions, organisations and enterprises making a commitment for a future of peace and human dignity through The Bruxelles Declaration "Pledge to Peace". The Bruxelles Declaration "Pledge to Peace" is a declaration of Intent, established  at the European Parliament during the “Peace and Prosperity, founding values of the European Union” conference held on 28th November 2011. The aim of this pledge is to encourage projects and actions that promote peace in its most universal meaning, based on the significance of each individual person. The pledge is inspired by the message of Prem Rawat, a long-standing peace advocate. The signatories are encouraged to provide the Pledge Secretariat with an annual report on their current activities on the International day of Peace.

A while ago—during the 'Lockdown' years—The Prem Rawat Foundation's Peace for People campaign celebrated Peace Day through a video called 'Voices of Peace'. It's as pertinent now as when first shown.
