For people around the world who feel inspired and motivated to actively participate in working in peace and for peace, the annual UN International Day of Peace (IDP) on 21st September is a focal point. The coordinated effort of millions of people annually raises awareness on both an individual and collective level to strengthen the practice of peace in ourselves and in our day to day relationships and activities.

This year’s theme is 'Actions for Peace: Our ambition for the #Global goals', and highlights personal and cooperative responsibility to foster peace. It is a call to action that highlights the United Nations 17 Sustainable Global goals to transform our world, for which 2023 is the midpoint. The Sustainable Development Goals summit is 18-19th Sept.

The UN's IDP 2023 'Actions for Peace' statement (see below) exemplifies the aspirations of the world's leading global intergovernmental organisation. Peace Partners, as a charity, shares these aspirations, and recognises that a cornerstone of the UN’s agenda will be ability to 'foster peace'. We believe the educational workshops of the Peace Education Programme provide vital help in promoting and enabling individuals, young and old alike, from all backgrounds, to learn the skills of fostering peace. The evidence is in the testimonials of participants themselves.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption by the UN of 21st September as the International Day of Peace. NGO Peace One Day , which campaigned for an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence, host and coordinate peace awareness events across the world each year.

Actions for Peace. Some Excerpts:

"The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire

This year’s theme is Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals. It is a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace ....

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will create a culture of peace for all .... But without the buy-in and contribution of a wide range of actors including the 1.2 billion young people alive, the goals will not be achieved ...

2023 is also the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights .... IDP 2023 encourages all youth to be ambitious in their engagement as positive and constructive social agents, to join the movement to reach the SDGs and contribute to building sustainable peace."
