We are delighted to share news of the premiere of a new documentary 'Power to Change', produced by the Celebrate Life team. Amongst its contributors were several people who were guest speakers at Peace Partners' Waves of Change events in Croydon. Here is an introduction, with more information, from co-director of the film, Roni Redmond. For the last two years, we have been passionately working on a documentary - Power to Change - which follows the lives of ordinary Londoners, set against the backdrop of loss and violence, as they learn how to move beyond the past with inner strength, circumspection and wisdom. In a time where youth violence is on the rise across the country, and with the poverty gap only increasing, this is a unique film that looks at the simplest solution: the innate goodness of a human being, who will make the right choices given the encouragement and tools to do so. Sometimes all it takes is one person, one act, one choice, to change the trajectory of a lifetime. The film tells the stories of four people: EJ a young man drawn into gang culture from an early age, Lorraine a grieving Mother who lost her son to knife crime as he saved another boy, Errol a repeat offender with 74 previous convictions, and Nate a former gang-member who was brutally stabbed by a childhood friend. The stories are woven together by Kaysen, a teacher, who passionately believes in supporting young people. Adding a unique perspective to this mix we hear from author and world-renowned speaker Prem Rawat who has dedicated his life to sharing a message of peace, and whose work in prisons in the UK and around the world has had a remarkable impact. This is the Premiere Screening of the documentary, which includes footage of Prem that hasn't been seen before. The event will include guest speakers, spoken word, and a live Q&A with the director and panellists. It will be shown on Wednesday 10th November, Screen 1 @Ritzy Picturehouse, Brixton, SW2 1JG. The performance starts 6 pm finishes 8 pm. Please share this unique and special event with your network, and any friends, and colleagues you feel would enjoy coming. Tickets are by a suggested donation of £12, although guests are welcome to donate more generously or donate less depending on their circumstances.
